Addiction is a powerful thing but with your huge brain and a repeatable process, along with reminders that aren't always gentle, you too can overcome and create new habits.
There is likely more to the story for many, but if you're just trying to quit doing something like smoking or checking your email a thousand times a day, or logging on to something like facebook, consider this simple tactic or trick:
It requires your being completely honest and depending on your situation, a great deal of self examination or exploration. I believe it was Socrates who said, "Know thyself" so at least you'd be in great, if not, mythical company.
When you begin to do thing you don't want to continue to do, ask yourself as close to the event as possible, "WHY?"
"Why am I about to do this?"
Your strength and your work, lie in the answer to that question.
I'd say good luck but that's NOT what this is about.
it's about discipline and a genuine interest in being your best.
Don't quit, start something better, and you'll be on your way to the preferred situation you envisioned when you thought you could be better. remind yourself that you are worth this effort. The person you want to be is waiting for you on the other side.
