urbs urbis: city. aestus maris: tides.

You toy with your microcosm and say
"They're all just shapes and colors."
You want me to do the same.

I look closely and see the creatures who so closely don't belong
begin to tear at flesh and devour one another, without regard.

The joyful smile on your face is as a child's with lincoln logs
I ask us to rise and walk the cul-de-sac and your attention is deferred
for a time

we walk and argue and spit
the finest hairs between love and hate are split.

Approaching us, though we don't move an inch-
the ocean and hotels overreaching it's view.

I see youthful dancers and students leaping out into the tumultuous water
unbothered by the changing color of the tide.

the scenes distort and bring to head memory of near death drowning and flails
the unreal movement of waves creeps in and recedes unimaginably fast.

some jumpers are spewed back and land on rocky shores
as the others are nonchalantly jamming feet from the gore
all above is below and the sun shimmers from the depths
entreating us to death.
